McAfee Stinger is a standalone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but a specialized tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with infected systems.
Stinger detects viruses such as Sobig or Zotob and eliminates them from the system. Other features include scanning of processes and digitally signed DAT files and scan performance optimisations. The tool can be run instantly with no installation needed. It receives frequent updates.
The tool can also be run via the command line:
/ ADL – scan of all local drives
/ GO – immediate scan
/ LOG – save the log file after scanning
/ SILENT – disable graphical interface

Conclusion:
McAfee Stinger gets to work straight away. It can be started instantly, with no installation needed. By default it scans the C drive, but extra hard drives can be added manually, and changes can be saved to the stinger.opt file. Log files can be saved via the “File / Save report to file” menu.
