DotNetNuke is the leading Web Content Management Platform for Microsoft .NET, powering more than 600,000 web sites worldwide. The community edition is an open source standard for .NET content management systems and it’s FREE!!
The DotNetNuke Community Edition includes rich content management and design features that make it easy to customize and integrate your DotNetNuke web site into your existing IT environment. Content management and design features of the Community Edition platform include:

  • Content management system – Lets developers and site administrators focus on delivering optimal solutions to meet their own unique business requirements rather than coding a custom content management system.
  • Apps — A broad range of DotNetNuke Apps can be used to provide additional functionality. The DotNetNuke Community Edition includes more than 25 apps which provide features such as banners, discussions, FAQs, and weblogs.  The apps can be grouped to form complete web or intranet pages and can be easily added to, edited, deleted, restored, moved around on a page, or transferred to other pages. Apps are available from third-party vendors on Snowcovered.com or for free download from the DotNetNuke Forge. Users can also easily change the look of a site using skins. Skins can be easily designed and are widely available from third-party vendors.
  • Site settings – Administrators can define the title of your site and manage search engine descriptions (metadata) and submissions, user welcome messages, logos, backgrounds, and skins.
  • Telerik controls – Includes the Telerik RadEditor Enhanced Rich Text Editor for functions like spell checking and image resizing and compression.  These tools provide defined access to the Telerik toolset through standard user interface extensions provided with the core DotNetNuke platform.
  • Containers – Used to frame individual modules, containers can be applied to one or more modules or can be set globally across all modules.
  • Stylesheets – Built-in stylesheets deliver pages with a uniform appearance. Stylesheets can be configured to modify elements such as font type, color, bullet points, and background color.
  • Body background – An image or color can be added to the background of all tabs to further customize the look of your site.
  • File management – Administrators can upload files directly from their computers. Uploaded files are instantly available for use on the site and are also listed in a module that handles documents and file downloads.
  • Recycle bin – Users can access any content, module, or page that has been deleted and restore it to its original location.
  • Drag-and-drop – Users can move containers and modules simply by dragging and dropping them on a page.
  • Banner advertising – Through the Vendors tab, administrators can add vendors and their profile information, then upload banners and determine their placement. They can define the number of impressions, cost per impression, or length of ad campaign, track ad views and clickthroughs, and define affiliate referrals.

Administration and security features of the DotNetNuke Community Edition include:

  • Single installation, multiple portals – DotNetNuke supports multiple portals or web sites using a single database. DotNetNuke installed on a web server can support multiple web sites through a single hosting account, ideal for providing sub-hosting services to memberships or for organizations providing departmental web sites.
  • Host and Administrator accounts – Separating host from administrator accounts allows for efficient administration. Logging in as Host allows users to manage settings related to site hosting and e-commerce, including monthly hosting fees, disk space, and demo period/expiration dates. The Host can access a list of all hosted sites and their individual hosting information, and can edit, modify, or delete a specific site. Logging in as Administrator lets users manage their own site by editing, modifying, or deleting their site settings but does not provide access to other sites operating under the same host.
  • Security roles and protected content – Administrators can define and assign roles for different user groups such as registered users, subscribers, content providers, affiliates, and media. They can then grant access and editing rights for each group. Rights can be assigned to an entire site, a single page, or to an individual module on a specific page. Individual users may belong to more than one group. Administrators can also establish separate password-protected areas on their web site to control access.
  • Site Log – Administrators can track users and visitors by generating reports with details such as page popularity, page views by day, page views by days of week, page views by hour, page views by month, user frequency, user registration by country, and user registration by date.
  • Manage vendors and affiliates – Administrators can store contact information, advertising materials (banners, button ads), and statistical data on site vendors and affiliates. They can also manage start and end dates for ad campaigns, track impressions, and calculate cost per impression (CPM).
  • Bulk email and newsletters – Administrators can compose and send bulk email messages to specific users or groups. They can also publish newsletters—created and sent as HTML documents—to targeted user groups.
