Features
- Like LimeWire, FrostWire is written in Java, and is therefore capable of supporting multiple platforms.
- While LimeWire is available in both free and paid versions, FrostWire is released only as a free version, the Windows version of which comes bundled with the Ask.com toolbar. FrostWire includes much of the functionality of LimeWire’s free version, as well as a few of LimeWire Pro’s payment based upgrades.
- FrostWire provides an online chatroom, which is absent in LimeWire. However, LimeWire includes an instant messenger using the XMPP protocol and allows the user to share with individual friends in the messenger which is a feature not found in FrostWire. Starting from version 4.13.1.7, the chatroom feature displays advertising to help pay for the required servers.
- Connections are encrypted with TLS by default unless it is disabled in the preferences.
- FrostWire’s BitTorrent engine is powered by Azureus technology starting from version 4.20.1 (February 2010). Prior to this, BitTorrent support was provided by a simplified BitTorrent engine created by LimeWire.
4.21.8 Changelog
frostwire (4.21.8) stable; urgency=high
* Fixes a possible freeze reported by some users when the configuration
wizard is shown.
* Fixes issue when a user changes default Gnutella Save Folder
and unchecks Sharing finished downloads. Individually shared
files from the old Save Folder would still be shared.
Now all individually shared files will be unshared if you uncheck
this setting.
* Now users don’t have to re-start to stop seeding after they’ve changed
their torrent Seeding Configuration. All torrents old and new will stop
seeding as soon as the setting is applied.
* Better wording to explain on which networks files are being shared on,
Gnutella or BitTorrent.
* Changed color of “Sharing Options” gear icon to blue, gray
icon may have seemed as if the button was disabled.
* Added “Sharing Options” gear button on Search Tab. It’s only visible
once a search has been started.
* Added Help Menu options to learn about how to share/unshare files,
torrent seeding, and how to avoid being scammed into paying for
FrostWire. DO NOT PAY FOR FROSTWIRE.
