Joomla! is a content management system for websites based on PHP and MySQL. Although it is basically independent of the operating system, we recommend Apache as web server and Linux as the OS. However, Windows and IIS, for instance, can also be used.

In the basic version, Joomla is primarily a content management system. The program can publish articles and blogs, and can also be extended with modules and components. There are functions for group calendars, event registrations, social networking, discussion forums, image galleries, download manager, chats and more. Most extensions are available under an open source licence.
